Events Calendar at a Glance 2010

September

Sunday, September 5: Caffeine and Octane, The Avenues in East Cobb County . This cruise-in is held from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM. A few northside metro ATL members attend this event. We are not organizing a club sponsored activity, but wanted you to know about it.  Questions? Call Martina Butler at (678) 643-0187.

Saturday, September 11:  Tucker Cruise-in, downtown Tucker, GA. Last June a bunch of us met for lunch then cruised over to downtown Tucker for a late afternoon cruise-in. Lots of you have asked when we’re going again, so here it is!  We will meet for lunch about 2:00 PM at the same Sonic Drive-In we used last June for the cruise-in. Around 4:00 PM we will caravan over to downtown Tucker to find good spots to line up on the street (in the shade). The cruise-in is this season’s last. They have music, prize drawings, some terrific classic cars and awards chosen by the people in attendance.

Questions? Call Doug Bailey at (404) 786-6077

October

Sunday, October 3:  “Sunday in the Park” at historic Oakland Cemetery is  Noon-6:00 PM.

We will meet at 10:00am for a lite brunch at the Sugar Magnolia B&B in historic Inman park. Then caravan a short distance to Oakland Cemetery. Directions and info for Sugar Magnolia can be found on their website: http://www.sugarmagnoliabb.com or 404-222-0226.

If you don't join us for brunch please try to meet us at the cemetery around 11:00 so we can get a good parking spot. This is always a fun event and the weather is usually spectacular. In past years, thousands of people have enjoyed Oakland Cemetery 's annual Victorian celebration. Attendees will enjoy carriage rides, children's activities, an artists' market, a photography contest, refreshments and live entertainment. In years past there has also been Oakland 's traditional Teddy Bear Tea, where children enjoy crafts, games and clowning. Details soon!

Saturday, October 16:  The Ellijay Apple Festival, North Georgia Mountains Driving Tour and Visit to Larry Bailey’s Car Collection. We need another fall mountain cruise before the winter sets in! This one-day driving tour is currently being planned by Greg Marshall and Doug Bailey. Details are being worked out, but the main plan is to take a scenic drive north to Ellijay to attend the Apple Festival on the 16th.  We will put together an interesting route through the mountains with a lunch spot along the way.

Driving Tour: Eleven of the county's 18 apple orchards are spread across the picturesque valley along State Highway 52. Other orchards dot the county's valleys and hillsides. There’s a parade starting on the square in Ellijay at 10:00 AM. The square is lined with historic buildings, antique, craft, and gift shops, as well as eateries of all kinds.

Apple Festival: Begins at 9:00 AM at the Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds, 1729 South Main Street , Ellijay , Georgia 30540.   Directions to be announced.

Larry Bailey’s Collector Cars:  Greg has a connection to this important collector, and has arranged for us to visit with Mr. Bailey and his cars in Cleveland , Georgia . Details to follow.

Questions? Call Greg at (678) 596-1468 or Doug at (404) 786-6077

Saturday, October 23:   Annual Jimmy Jones Car Show Marist Alumni Homecoming Weekend. 8:30 AM to Noon.  Marist High School ,  3790 Ashford Dunwoody Road , (about a mile inside the perimeter). We will be showing our cars in shaded parking. When turning into Marist go all the way down the driveway, then you must follow the road to the left and we will be on the left. Previous years have been great successes. A number of classics of all makes and clubs participate, and trophies will be awarded by popular vote. This all starts at 8:30 am and runs till Noon. The early crowd will enjoy coffee & doughnuts.

Saturday, October 30: Annual Peach State Member Appreciation Day with “The RIDES of Lake Arrowhead !” Each year the Peach State CLC hosts a cookout to celebrate its members’ dedication to the club.       RIDES of Lake Arrowhead Car Show: The Peach State CLC cars would not be eligible for the Lake Arrowhead People's Choice Award, but there may be a PSCLC People's Choice Award as well.

§  Location: The Great Festival Park in Lake Arrowhead Lake Arrowhead is located about 60 miles north of downtown Atlanta , 9 miles NW of Canton, just off of GA 140.

November

Saturday, November 13:  Milton Robson auction by RM in Gainesville GA.  A group of Peach Staters is hoping to snag some seats to this important auction to watch the proceedings.   Mr. Robson is close friends with PSCLC member Dick Peden, and we have been to visit the car collection several times.  It will be a nostalgic trip to watch Robson liquidate his cars, his building and his property. RM’s web site says that admission will require the purchase of the official auction catalog ($80).  The catalog admits two to the preview, a reception and the auction… $150 gets two into both days, and registers them to bid. More on this activity as we get closer to the date.

Questions or comments? Call Martina Butler at (678) 643-0187.

December

Saturday, December 11:   It’s our 18th ANNUAL Peach State Christmas Party! Reserve the date. We usually meet for a catered brunch banquet and festivities. Last year we had an exciting auction of Cadillac and other memorabilia, and some really terrific food, annual awards and camaraderie… More as this year’s party shapes up. Mark it down, as you will NOT want to miss this festive event!

This Month's Member Picture Gallery Car Belongs To:

Paul and Gloria West - Marietta, GA

1986 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Series Limo

Paul and Gloria West are the proud owners of this 1986 Fleetwood ’75 Series Limousine.

Invited as guests to the exhibit of Truitt Cathy, founder of Chick-Fil-A, we made the winning bid at a silent auction held in March 2009.

The exterior is dark blue with dark blue landau top, power moon roof and boomerang-shaped antenna.  The interior has dark blue rolled and tufted upholstery, additional jump seats, air conditioning, courtesy lights and privacy sliding windows.

Although we did spend some money to fix a few things, this has been a fun car to drive, and we’re enjoying being a part of the Cadillac LaSalle Club.
